McKinney Double-Double Not Enough vs. USI

Sept. 17, 2004

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--The Lewis University women's volleyball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 1-3 loss against Southern Indiana.

The Screaming Eagles (7-4, 1-0 GLVC), who have played in the GLVC Tournament Championship match the past two years, bested Lewis (7-4, 0-1 GLVC) 30-27, 28-30, 30-23, 34-32.

The Flyers' Theresa Nugent and Sarah McKinney were the only Lewis players to record at least 10 kills; Nugent tallied a team-best 13 kills, while McKinney added 10.

The team struggled offensively, hitting just .141 for the match. Rory Harrison and Val Olis were the team's most potent offensive weapons as both players posted eight kills and they hit .438 and .333, respectively.

Defensively, McKinney had a career-high 22 digs and freshman setter Andrea Morrone dug 20 balls. Nugent led the team with five blocks.

Lewis will be in action Saturday when it travels to SIU Edwardsville for a 2 p.m. match.
