Softball Splits with Wisconsin-Parkside; Martz Sets Two School Records

April 21, 2005

Game 2 Box Score

KENOSHA, Wis. - In game two of a conference doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside, Lewis University junior Robin Martz broke Lewis' single-season stolen base record and tied the school record for runs.

Martz swiped second and third bases in the first inning of the nightcap to bring her season total to 27 stolen bases. The theft broke the previous mark of 26 set by Elaina Ktistou (class of '04) in 2004. The stolen bases also led to Lewis' first run in game 2 and helped lead the Flyers to a 5-2 victory.

After reaching third, Martz scored on a sacrifice fly by Amy Yusko to give Lewis a 1-0 lead. Martz scored two runs in the game and tied Lewis' single-season record with 42 runs scored.

Lewis (23-16, 9-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference) padded its lead to 2-0 in the third. Christina Willis led off with an infield single, one of her two hits in the game, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Martz. Willis then scored a batter later when Beth Shelus reached on a throwing error by Wisconsin-Parkside's Meloney Strohbusch.

The Flyers added two more runs in the fifth on a two-out RBI single from Yusko.

In the sixth, Kristy Vanek lifted her first home run of the season down the left field line, just inside the foul pole for a 5-0 lead.

UWP got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run to left center field by Strohbusch.

Shannon Roney (8-6) picked up the complete-game win allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five.

UWP's Kristen Brestan one-hit the Flyers in the opener and beat Lewis 6-0. Brestan took a no-hitter into the sixth inning when Martz broke up the no-hit bid with a single back through the middle.

Parkside (24-16, 9-5 GLVC) scored five runs in the first inning and chased Lewis starter Kasey DeLair (5-3) in one-third of an inning. Ashley LeGrand pitched the final 5 2/3 innings allowing one run on two hits.
