HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.-Northern Kentucky swept a doubleheader from the Lewis softball team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both schools. Lewis (12-8) fell 6-0 in game 1 and 3-2 in the nightcap. The Flyers led 2-0 in game 2, but a three-run third inning changed the tide. In game 2, Stacy Davis led off the second inning with a single and was pinch-run for by Kim Harris. Harris later scored on a two-out single by Elaina Ktistou. The Flyers tallied their second run in the third inning. Amy Roberts singled to left to start the inning; Amy Yusko brought her home two batters later on a triple over the right fielder's head. Yusko's triple chased Northern Kentucky starter Emily Breitholle and brought in Crystal Lewallen, the game 1 starter. Lewallen, who pitched a complete-game six-hit shutout in the opener, shut down the Flyers for the final 4 2/3 innings and lead the Norse (21-1) to the come-from-behind victory. Robin Martz led Lewis with four hits on the day. She had two hits in each game. The Flyers will conclude their opening weekend of conference play with a doubleheader at Bellarmine on Sunday at noon. |
