ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University softball team ended play in the Lewis Invitational with a 5-0 victory over local rival St. Francis. Lewis (10-11) finished 2-2 in the tournament that featured the Saints, Ferris State and Saginaw Valley State. Shannon Roney earned her first career shutout in a six-inning performance that was shortened due to darkness. Roney struck out a season-high seven batters and held the Saints to just two hits. Robin Martz paced the Flyer offense with a 3 for 3 day that included a lead off home run to start the game. The home run was the first of the junior All-American's career. She also scored three runs and drove in a pair of RBI. Martz, who was 3 for 5 with four runs scored against Ferris State earlier in the day, was 6 for 8 with seven runs scored on the day. Kristy Vanek drove in two runs against Ferris State and added two more against St. Francis to tally four RBI. Lewis will travel to Rensselaer, Ind. on Tuesday, March 22 for a non-conference doubleheader with Saint Joseph's. |
