Sophomore Amy Yusko

Softball Completes Spring Trip with 8-2 Record

Mar. 5, 2004

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A pair of wins in the final day of the team's spring trip handed the Lewis softball team its second-best week ever at the Rebel Spring Games. Lewis finished 8-2 during its spring break trip to up its overall record to 9-5 on the season. The Flyers beat South Dakota State 2-0 Friday morning and then closed the trip with a 5-0 defeat of Dominican (N.Y.).

Sophomore shortstop Amy Yusko provided the spark against South Dakota State. Yusko tripled over the right fielder's head in the third inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kalynn Russell. Yusko reached again in the fifth when she lined a ball to centerfield that the center fielder dropped. Yusko was able to advance to third on the play when the left fielder muffed the ball trying to relay it back to the infield. She scored the game's final run on an RBI triple from senior Crystal Bowen.

Mary Jaszczak went four innings in the circle and evened her record at 3-3. Carrie Paradzinski pitched the final three innings and earned her first save of the season.

The final game of the trip saw senior second baseman Elaina Ktistou exhibit offensive prowess that equaled her traditionally strong defensive skills. Ktistou went 3-for-4 and delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning that gave Lewis its final margin of victory. Ktistou batted .296 (8-for-27) with a team-leading six RBI during the team's 10-game spring trip.

Bowen went 2-for-2 with a double, stolen base and a run scored against Dominican as well.

Paradzinski (5-2) picked up her fourth win of the week with a five-inning, five-hit performance. Junior Kristen Porzel closed the final two innings without allowing a hit to earn her first career save.

In its next games, Lewis returns home to face nationally ranked Grand Valley State in a doubleheader on March 13.
