Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Lewis University softball team's offense came to life Saturday afternoon scoring 21 runs and rapping out 23 hits in a pair of wins at the Rebel Spring Games.

The Flyers (5-6) beat East Stroudsburg (Pa.) 12-4 in a five-inning run-rule game to open the day. The team then followed with its second straight run-rule victory in a 9-1 win over Kutztown (Pa.).

Against East Stroudsburg, Lewis exploited ESU's missed chance in the first inning. ESU loaded the bases with one out, but Lewis' Kristen Porzel worked out of the jam. Instead, Lewis answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs.

Amy Yusko began the rally with a one-out double. She advanced to third after a base hit by Kristy Vanek and scored a batter later on a Carla Musillo single. Mallory Paine capped the rally with a two-out two-RBI single.

The Flyers added five runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth. Paine highlighted the third inning outburst with a two-run double, while Robin Martz had a two-run double in the fourth inning.

Martz, Yusko, Vanek and Paine each had two hits in the game. Martz added two RBI, two runs and a double; Yusko had a double, a triple and an RBI; Vanek was 2 for 3 with two RBI; and Paine was 2 for 2 with a double and four RBI.

Porzel (1-1) picked up the win after working into the fourth inning. She recorded three strikeouts and surrendered five hits.

Martz, Yusko and Paine led the offensive charge against Kutztown as well. Martz went 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored; Yusko was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; and Paine was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI.

Ashley LeGrand (4-1) went the distance in the circle and picked up the win. She allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Paine finished the day 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and drove in six runs.

Lewis returns to action Sunday, March 6 when it continues its run against teams from the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Flyers play California (Pa.) at 8:50 a.m. and Merrimack (Pa.) at 10:40 a.m.
