Feb. 13, 2004 FLORENCE, Ala. - Carrie Paradzinski pitched a gem in her season debut, recording nine strikeouts and just one walk in a complete-game, three-hit performance. Unfortunately, the Flyer bats were unable to give some offensive support as the team fell for the second time on opening day. Lewis produced one hit and lost 1-0 to Arkansas-Monticello. Robin Martz had the lone hit of the day and Kristy Vanek reached on a walk for the Flyers' only baserunners. "Robin played superb all day," said Lewis head coach George DiMatteo. "She had three hits today and made an outstanding play in the outfield that saved a run." Paradzinski (0-1) surrendered a pair of doubles in the fifth inning, and those two hits were the difference in the game. With a runner on third in the sixth inning, Arkansas-Monticello (1-0) lifted a fly ball to medium deep left field that Martz ran down and then whirled home with a throw that beat the runner at the plate. Lewis (0-2) will seek its first victory of the season Saturday when it plays Southern Arkansas at 11 a.m. and North Alabama at 3 p.m. |
