ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Freshman Allison Wilkerson hadn't scored a goal since youth soccer, but the 5-7 defender lifted the Lewis University women's soccer team to two wins with a pair of crucial goals this past weekend.

Wilkerson scored the game-tying goal in a 3-2 victory over Southern Indiana Oct. 15 and then duplicated the feat Sunday afternoon in a 3-2 win over Missouri-St. Louis.

With the Flyers trailing 2-1, Wilkerson connected on a header off of a free kick from fellow freshman Katie Burke. Wilkerson's goal tied the game at 2-all with 25:47 (64:13) left to play in the second half.

Lewis (4-10-1, 2-6-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) would then notch the game-winner with 5:02 (84:58) left in regulation. Burke launched a free kick from near midfield to the top of the goal box where Wilkerson headed the ball into the air. Junior Devin Owens scored her first goal of the season when she popped Wilkerson's header just over the UMSL goalkeeper's arms.

Wilkerson finished the game with a goal and an assist and tallied two goals and three assists in Lewis' two games this weekend.

Freshman Sarah Lyons scored her first collegiate goal at 14:24 of the first half to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Burke assisted on the goal and had three assists in the game. Burke had a goal and five assists in the weekend's matches.

Lewis took its 1-0 lead into halftime and didn't surrender a goal until 53:45 when Emily Worley scored for UMSL (8-8-1, 3-5-1 GLVC). UMSL would take the lead, albeit briefly, at 60:03 when Meghan Tragesser scored off of a feed from Mandy Meendering.

The win marked the second straight game that Lewis had overcome a 2-1 deficit after staking an early 1-0 lead. The victory also gave the team consecutive wins for the first time since Oct. 22, 2000, and upped their GLVC win total to its highest point since the 2000 season.
