ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--A late SIU Edwardsville flurry tainted what was an otherwise well-played game by the Lewis women's soccer team Sunday afternoon. "We had a 15 minute lapse in the second half that killed us," said Lewis head coach Bill Bruno. The Flyer women surrendered a first-half goal, but were able to come back and tie the game at 1-all when Caroline Kenny lofted a 20-yard shot over the SIU Edwardsville goalkeeper's arms. Jenna Volpi earned the assist on the score at 49:07. SIUE (10-4-0, 6-1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) answered with the eventual game winner almost two and a half minutes later as Ann Crawford scored the first of her two goals at 51:36. The Cougars would then add a pair of insurance goals at 70:25 and 78:37 to give them a 4-1 victory. Lewis goalkeeper Courtney Hutt registered five saves and faced nine shots on goal. The loss drops Lewis' to 2-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the GLVC. |
