Sept. 28, 2003
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis women's soccer team pressed the second half of play against Quincy September 28, but two first-half goals were too much to overcome, as Quincy beat Lewis 2-1. Quincy (5-3-1, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) outshot Lewis 19-6 in the first half, and Lewis goalkeeper Courtney Hutt was forced to make nine saves in the half. Quincy's Erin Ollech found the net twice on unassisted goals-18:44 and 39:16-to give the Lady Hawks a 2-0 lead. However, Lewis was able to turn the tide in the second-half as it held Quincy to just three shots, while the Flyers fired nine shots. Loren Pellizzari cut the Quincy lead to one at 83:06 following a scramble in front of the Quincy net. Michelle Sternbauer and Jenna Volpi were credited with assists after each of them launched shots whose rebounds eventually led to Pellizzari pushing the ball into the net. Lewis falls to 3-8-0 overall and 0-3 in the GLVC with the loss. The Flyers' next game will be Friday, October 3 when they host Wisconsin-Parkside at noon. |
