COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 14th-ranked Lewis University men's volleyball team overcame a sluggish first game and gave Ohio State a run for its money Friday night, but the 11th-ranked Buckeyes prevailed 30-23, 34-32, 30-26 in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.

Matt Mueller led the Lewis offensive attack with 15 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Jeff Soler collected 10 kills and hit .304, Enrique Escalante posted nine kills and a .438 success rate, and Tom Mendoza had seven kills and a .417 attack percentage.

Ohio State (18-7, 11-2) hit .485 to the Flyers' .152 in game one. Lewis (14-13, 8-5) bounced back in game two, hitting .333 and almost tying the match, then closed with a .371 hitting efficiency in the finale to finish at .293 for the match.

Unfortunately, Ohio State was clicking on all cylinders. The Buckeyes hit .485 (60-10-103) for the match with Mark Greaves (24 kills, .556), Scott Spurlock (12 kills, .625) and Layne Dreven (nine kills, .750) leading the way. OSU also earned a 31-19 advantage in digs.
