ROMEOVILLE - Goals by TIto Lara and Matt Field in the final 19 minutes propelled Lewis to a 2-1, come-from-behind win over Southern Indiana Friday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer game. The Flyers (12-1-2, 5-1-2 GLVC), ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II, trailed 1-0 after Southern Indiana's Greg Dingrando (Andrew Bass assist) scored his first goal of the season at 60:36. The Lewis comeback began at the 71:04 mark when Lara took a pass from Mike Dahm, dribbled into the clear and fired a shot past USI goalkeeper Josh Hill. The goal was Lara's fifth of the season. Dahm also ignited the game-winning play with a pass to Cathal Brady on the right side of the box. Brady's cross was right on the money to Field, who headed the ball past Hill at 86:01 for his third goal of the year. Lewis gained hefty advantages in total shots (25-9), shots on goal (11-4) and corner kicks (8-3). Flyer goalkeeper Dan Breen made three saves and Hill collected eight saves for USI (2-12-1, 1-7 GLVC). Lewis hosts Missouri-St. Louis Sunday at noon. |
