Aug. 26, 2004 ROMEOVILLE - Ten different Lewis University players tallied a goal or an assist Thursday in the Flyers' 6-1 men's soccer non-conference victory over St. Francis in the season opener for both teams. The Flyers wasted no time in claiming the lead. Justin Sanabria took a pass from Sebastian Falinski and banged it home for a 1-0 Lewis advantage just 38 seconds into the game. St. Francis evened the score at 12:43 with a corner-kick goal by Manny Magana (Dan Martinez assist), but from there it was all Lewis. A goal by Scott Hall (Gavin Grogan) gave the Flyers the lead for good at 17:42. Sergio Lira's unassisted goal at 21:36 made it 3-1, and Mike Dahm (Sanabria) found the net at 23:43 to give Lewis a 4-1 cushion that held until halftime. Second-half goals by Nick Kowalski (Alejandro Blinder) at 64:54 and Ryan Doody (Anthony Marsico) at 79:20 provided the final margin. Lewis starting goalkeeper Dan Breen made three saves and was relieved by Andrew Oman at the 83-minute mark. Ben Orris and Sean Porter made three and two saves, respectively, for the Saints. Lewis outshot USF 26-5, including a 12-4 margin in shots on goal. |
