AUBURN, Ind. - Lewis University junior Jason Buffone carded successive rounds of 2-over-par 73 to tie for second place among 94 players at the Great Lakes Region #3 men's golf tournament, played Sunday and Monday at Deer Track Golf Course. Lewis finished eighth in the 19-team field with rounds of 301 and 312 for a 613 total. Grand Valley State (593) won the team title. Buffone and Northern Kentucky's David Shearer finished two strokes behind medallist Kevin Kremer of Grand Valley State. Freshman Rob Peters shot 71-83=154 and tied for 23rd. Also competing for Lewis were senior Tres Steffey, tied for 38th (79-77=156), freshman Lloyd Roth, tied for 61st (78-82=160), and freshman Dennis McLain, tied for 61st (80-80=160). The Flyers now wait for a possible invitation to the eight-team NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship. Buffone most likely has qualified for an individual berth in the regional, scheduled for May 2-5 in Florence, Ky. |
