Dennis Troy, who has guided the Lewis University men's golf team to four NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship appearances in the past five seasons, is in his 15th season as the Flyers' head coach. The 60-year-old Chicago native, who earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year award in 1994 and 2003 after Lewis won the GLVC title, has been involved in golf all his life. He learned the game from his father, who was a Professional Golfers Association (PGA) professional for 40 years. Troy enjoyed an outstanding career at Robert Morris Junior College, where he narrowly missed making the All-America team. He earned two varsity letters at the University of Mississippi and in 1971 completed work on a bachelor's degree in physical education. Troy began playing competitive golf at age 13 and has competed at the junior, amateur, collegiate and professional levels. After serving two years in the Army, Troy attended PGA qualifying school in 1976. He is a member of the PGA and has served as the professional at Zigfield-Troy Golf Center, which he co-owns, since 1980. He also is a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Troy earned a master's degree in education at Delta State University in 1979. He and wife Susan live in Clarendon Hills and have three children and five grandchildren. |
