Box Score

ROMEOVILLE - Lewis outscored North Park 14-0 over the last 4:43 of the game and improved to 2-0 with a 68-50 non-conference victory Saturday night at Neil Carey Arena.

John Loeffelholz scored 11 points in the second half to finish with a team-high 15 points for the Flyers, who shot 50 percent (13-26) overall, 40 percent (4-10) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent (10-12) at the foul line in the final 20 minutes.

Steve Turner scored 14 points, grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds (six offensive) and tied his career high of five steals, and Anthony Scala scored 10 points. DeAndre Williams distributed a game-high five assists, while Pat Monaghan collected six rebounds and Loeffelholz dished out four assists.

The Flyers used a 13-3 run to stretch a 10-9 edge into a 23-12 cushion with 6:03 left in the first half. But North Park (1-1) put together a 17-5 spurt and took a 29-28 lead into the locker room.

The visiting Vikings scored five quick points and led 34-28 just a minute into the second half before the Flyer offense started clicking. Turner scored seven points in a 13-2 run that put Lewis up 41-36 at the 14:23 mark.

Despite playing its second game in as many nights, North Park stayed close and trailed just 54-50 with 4:43 to play. That's when the Flyers began their game-ending run that featured nine free throws in 10 attempts, part of Lewis' 19-24 effort (79.2 percent) for the game.

The Flyers forced 23 North Park turnovers and suffered just 11 turnovers themselves, giving Lewis a plus-28 advantage in that category in its first two games.

Lewis begins defense of its 2004 Great Lakes Valley Conference title Friday at Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
