Game 1 Box Score & Play-By-Play Game 2 Box Score & Play-By-Play
ROMEOVILLE - Matt Petrusek fired a 4-hitter Sunday to collect his fifth victory of the season, a 4-1 triumph over Northern Kentucky in game one of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. Lewis fought back from an 8-2 deficit to forge a 9-9 tie in game two, only to see NKU score four times in the ninth for a 13-9 win. In the opener, Petrusek (5-6) struck out six and walked only one while going the 7-inning distance. Northern Kentucky's only tally was an unearned run in the third inning that gave the Norse a 1-0 lead. Lewis countered with a run in its half of the third when Darryl Jenkins' fielder's choice drove in Brian Davis, who led off with a double. The Flyers gave Petrusek all he needed in the fourth as Phil Marchinski reached on an error and scored on Andy Radak's double. Lewis added two more unearned runs in the fifth to conclude the scoring. Victor Naut had two hits and Marchinski registered a double for the Flyers, who outhit the Norse 9-4. In the nightcap, Lewis scored three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth. Matt Newquist and Brandon Niewinski led off the seventh with singles, and Radak plated Newquist with a single. After Jenkins reached on an error, Andy Sweet walked to force in Niewinski, and Radak scored on another NKU miscue to make it 8-5. After NKU scored a run in the eighth, Davis pulled the Flyers (14-29, 8-19 GLVC) to within a run with a 3-run double. Jenkins tied the score with a double that brought in Davis. Unfortunately, NKU (23-19, 16-12 GLVC) rallied for four runs with two outs in the ninth to win for a third time in the four-game weekend series. Jenkins (two doubles), Davis, Newquist and Radak had two hits apiece in game two. Davis had four RBI and Sweet drove in two runs, including a solo home run in the first inning. The Flyers play a GLVC twinbill at Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday. |
