Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lewis University baseball team concluded its season-opening Florida trip on a positive note with a 12-3 victory over Bloomfield (N.J.) College.

Phil Marchinski had three RBI and Brandon Niewinski, Dave Tolchin and Brian Clancy had two RBI apiece. Billy Duffy, Victor Naut and Mike Smith drove in a run apiece.

Flyer starting pitcher Jon Crettol went seven innings and collected his first collegiate win. Crettol allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, and he walked just one while striking out four.

Lewis (1-8) struck for two runs in the top of the first on Marchinski's double and added two runs in the second on Clancy's double and Duffy's single. Niewinski led off the third with a home run for a 5-1 Flyer lead.

The Flyers exploded for five runs in the fifth. Smith had a one-out, bases-loaded sacrifice fly and, after a walk loaded the bases again, Tolchin delivered a two-run single. Clancy's RBI single and Niewinski's bases-loaded walk concluded the Lewis outburst.

In the eighth, Niewinski led off with a walk and scored on Naut's triple, and Naut scored on Marchinski's single.

Tolchin and Clancy belted three hits apiece, while Duffy, Niewinski, Naut and Marchinski each had two hits in Lewis' 16-hit attack. Niewinski also had three walks and scored four runs.
