Flyers Capture Season Opener

Feb. 27, 2004

Box Score

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Victor Naut hit two home runs, one a grand slam, in an eight-run sixth inning, and Matt Petrusek pitched seven strong innings to lead the Lewis University baseball team to a 12-10 victory over Barry Thursday night in the Flyers' season opener.

Barry, which came in with a nine-game winning streak, fell to 10-3.

With the score knotted 4-4, Naut led off the sixth with the first of his two blasts. Barry committed three errors to prolong the inning and Naut took advantage, delivering the grand slam that gave the Flyers a 12-4 lead.

In the Barry eighth, Nick Corbeil hit a two-out, three-run homer that ignited a six-run inning. But Flyer reliever Dave Tolchin put out the fire and went on to record the save.

Petrusek allowed six hits, struck out six and walked three. Brandon Niewinski collected three hits, while Phil Marchinski and Andy Sweet added two hits apiece.
