CHICAGO - The Lewis University swimming teams produced a winner in half of the events in a double dual meet with Illinois Institute of Technology and Beloit College. Leigh Dodd (1:03.16), Rita Kalmikova and Jenny Byers placed 1-2-3, respectively, in the meet's opening race (100 backstroke) to set the tone for the women. The men's 100 backstroke followed the women's, and Matt Petrizzo (56.44) and Jevgenijs Pesins (1:01.20) finished first and third, respectively, for the men. Michelle Sliva claimed a victory in the 1000 free with an 11:33.65, bettering her previous season-best time by nearly two seconds. Brittany Reetz (2:04.85, 200 free) and Rita Kalmikova (26.83, 50 free) continued the women's winning streak by giving the Flyers winners in three straight events. Petrizzo scored his second win of the day swimming the 200 individual medley in 2:04.84. Pesins placed second in a leisurely 2:08.61; his time was almost seven seconds off his season-best. The Lewis women picked up five more victories throughout the day, while the men added a pair. Sliva (2:19.53, 200 butterfly), Dodd (58.41, 100 free), Byers (2:23.34, 200 back), Tristine Schmidt (500 free, 5:29.91) and the 200 freestyle relay team (1:47.98) recorded wins for the women. On the men's side, Josh Rogers (49.59, 100 free) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.05) notched wins. The Flyers will be off for the Thanksgiving holiday and then travel to Miami (Ohio) for the 10th Annual Miami Invitational December 4-6. The invitational is the biggest meet Lewis competes at in the fall. |
