KENOSHA, Wisc. - The Lewis University swimming teams split their dual meet with Carthage College last weekend. The Flyer women brought home a 138.5-125.5 victory, while the men's team lost 111-121. The Flyers had nine different swimmers win individual events at the meet. Michael Lapsutin lowered the school record in the 100 backstroke for the second time this season with a 52.79 that also gave him an NCAA "B-cut." He also won the 50 free in a season-best 22.16. Josh Rogers claimed a pair of victories to help lead the men as well. Rogers won the 100 and 200 freestyles in 48.91 and 1:48.79, respectively. Jevgenijs Pesins (2:06.74, 200 butterfly) and Matt Petrizzo (4:23.39, 400 IM) rounded out the men's event winners. For the women, sophomore Leigh Dodd won three individual events and was a member of the 200 medley relay team that was victorious. Dodd registered a lifetime best 2:14.65 in the 200 back and swam 1:04.02 (100 back) and 5:33.34 (500 free) in her wins. Other women's event winners included, Brittany Reetz (25.54, 50 free), Rita Kalmikova (100 breast, 1:08.80; 200 breast, 2:27.59) and Tristine Schmidt (2:03.60, 200 free). The Flyers will have one more tune-up meet before their biggest meet of the fall, the Miami (Ohio) Invitational (Dec. 4-6). Lewis will swim a dual meet at IIT on November 22. |
